Portfolio Management

Acorn Financial approaches portfolio management in 2 steps.

Our first step is researching and validating investments in different categories that are suitable holdings. It involves asking 5 key questions related to:

  1. Strategy and process—What is the investment strategy? Does management choose companies based on their solid earnings potential and ability to thrive long term?
  2. What is the investments' history of success and has the managers' process delivered solid and consistent results in the past?
  3. Talent—How much confidence do we have in the experience, resources and track record of the decision-making team?
  4. Fund owners—What are their priorities? Do they allow decision-makers to manage the investment without parent-company interference? How reasonable is the investment company's fees and expenses?
  5. Team commitment—Do team members invest a significant amount of their own money in the funds they manage?

In step two, we narrow down your investment selection to those that best match your goals, timeframe and risk tolerance. For investors with a high-risk tolerance or long investment window, we may recommend investments that seek the highest long-term returns. Our recommendations for investors with low risk tolerance and shorter investment timeframes typically include strategies to reduce volatility.
